Hazards and risks for raw materials
FRM brings together all the information you need to assess a hazard for your ingredient — fully substantiated, up to date and audit-proof.
- FRM shows every risk for the selected raw material in a single overview. The likelihood of occurrence is combined with the possible health hazard, after which the risk is classified with coloured dots: high, medium or low risk. This takes into account the ingredient itself as well as the requirements of the product category.
- For every raw material, all the relevant food safety hazards are included that you need for a complete hazard analysis
- For every hazard you will find the health effects, the legal limits, and other references that determine whether or not a hazard poses a risk to your raw material or product.
- A complete overview of the products, limits, recalls and RASFF notifications linked to this hazard.
- Unique feature: Risks are adjustable by you for your company.
Limits & legislation
Limits and legislation per raw material at a glance
Food Risk Monitor includes all the food safety standards and legislation needed for a solid hazard analysis. In addition, FRM Guidelines are provided where no legal limits have been set but the hazard may still pose a risk to your product.
- The legal limits from the EU, the Netherlands and Belgium are included for every risk, every product category and every ingredient.
- View current legislation; future and withdrawn limits are included as well.
- Direct links to the current legislation and other references
- The limits are based on the ingredient, the end product, product parameters, processing, storage conditions, packaging type and consumer use. This approach lets you find every risk with its corresponding limit for any product or ingredient. Results therefore differ between canned and fresh products, and between ready-to-(h)eat meals and fresh vegetables.
- With FRM you check in seconds whether analysis reports meet the legal limits for your raw material — without looking up the legislation every time. FRM keeps all limits and risks current, so you always have the latest information. Want to read something in full? You can click straight through to the legislation
- Assessing and drawing up raw material specifications becomes straightforward: you compare the result from the FRM database with the data on the specification.

View every risk for your ingredients with references to limits and legislation. Risk class related to legislation and incidents. RASFF notifications and recalls linked to the ingredient.
RASFF
Full RASFF integration
RASFF alerts are included in the Food Risk Monitor database as standard.
- Unique feature: link straight through to the original RASFF notification
- RASFF alerts are linked automatically to your own ingredient. You immediately see which incidents worldwide are relevant to your raw material.
- FRM makes sure every RASFF notification ends up with the right ingredient, even when it is described in different terms or languages.
- So for every ingredient you see not only the risks and limits, but also the RASFF alerts and the recalls — all together in one clear overview.
- Recurring issues from RASFF and recalls are incorporated into the risk tables, so you always have an up-to-date picture of the most important hazards for your ingredients. You will see, for example, that Salmonella in cashew nuts is classified as a high risk because of recurring RASFF notifications. Recent incidents, such as cereulide toxin from Bacillus, are included as well.
Recalls
Recalls linked directly to ingredients
Recall alerts are included in the Food Risk Monitor database as standard. They can be viewed separately in the database and also appear with the ingredients in the lookup function.
- Direct link to the original recall and food safety notification from the Netherlands and Belgium
- Recalls are assigned to hazards and are made visible there as well
- If incidents occur with particular ingredients that have a major impact, we incorporate this into the risk tables for your ingredient straight away. That way your hazard and risk assessment always stays current!
The platform
Everything in one place, smart and efficient and available to everyone
One integrated platform for all your food safety and compliance information. Everything is together in Food Risk Monitor. Reliable, complete, easy to use and time-saving.
In practice, all the information for a hazard and risk assessment tends to be scattered, incomplete and out of date. Drawing one up and keeping it current therefore takes an enormous amount of time. For companies with many raw materials and products it is an almost impossible, time-consuming task. FRM was developed by food safety experts who ran into these problems every day. FRM is the new reference for drawing up your hazard and risk assessment. You will not find a programme that is easier, better and more complete than Food Risk Monitor.
- No more searching for all the legislation, relevant literature on food safety.
- All limits clearly indicated for your ingredient
- All legal limits, guidelines, recalls and RASFF alerts are linked directly to the risk. So there is nothing left to look up separately. And if you do want to read something in full, the original legislation is one click away.
- Risk assessment updated in response to incidents and new developments
- FRM is available to every organisation: from small producer to multinational, and to consultants working for several clients. We believe this information should be widely accessible.
- We offer professional support on food safety and on using the programme. We will guide you step by step if you want us to. But Food Risk Monitor is built so that you can get started on your own straight away.
- Food Risk Monitor is continuously being developed; new functionality will be added to the programme in the period ahead.
- Your input is welcome — very welcome. We offer an active option to improve the programme together.

About Food Risk Monitor
Founded because food safety knowledge is scattered
Food Risk Monitor was founded because knowledge about HACCP, raw material risks and food safety is often scattered, incomplete and hard to find. FRM brings all the relevant information together: legislation, literature, internet sources and the in-depth expertise of our food safety specialists. The result is one central, reliable platform for drawing up and maintaining hazard and risk assessments.
The founders of Food Risk Monitor are rooted in Wageningen University and went on to gain more than 30 years of experience in business as independent entrepreneurs. They are pioneers at heart — always focused on innovation and practical application.
Together they previously developed BD Food HACCP software, which has now been developed further into the complete and modern Food Risk Monitor.
